Month: November 2018

A Measure of Trust

As expected, our four-legged friends have been stealing our hearts in each session of PAWS.  Once they feel comfortable, the pups love following commands and doing tricks for treats.  When the treats are all gone, it’s nice to relax and enjoy being together.

Passion for the Game

Our intramural soccer program drew interest from students of all ages this year.  It was a nice experience for novices as well as more experienced players.  Now we are looking forward to an exciting basketball season!

A Special Thank You to All Veterans

Students in art class were given an opportunity to say thank you to veterans this week. They made beautiful cards with heartfelt messages. We are currently selling paper flags in honor and in memory of veterans who hold a special place in our hearts. The money we collect will be used to buy gift cards and special treats for veterans who reside at the Lyons VA Hospital in Berkley Heights, NJ. We hope it will make them smile this holiday season to be reminded of how thankful we are for their service and bravery.

Preparing for a Feast

We spent the last few days getting ready for our annual Thanksgiving luncheon.  It seemed like a big undertaking at first, but with everyone’s contributions, it ran very smoothly. We had fun making tasty pies, festive centerpieces, and delicious food that we will enjoy together. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Every Can Counts

Thank you to everyone who donated to our Thanksgiving food drive! We delivered several large boxes of non-perishable food to the Center for Food Action today. Your generosity will enable many people to have a much nicer holiday this year.  We are very proud of our student council for making beautiful posters, reminding each homeroom about it, checking for expiration dates, and packing up the food.  It was a job well done!

Rotary Club Delivers an Important Message

We are so thankful to the Pompton Lakes Rotary Club for making their annual delivery of dictionaries to our third graders.  Our students were very excited to hear about how much fascinating information they can find in this special gift.  They learned about the many wonderful things that the rotary club does to help people around the world. We hope that they will be inspired to put service above self in their own lives.

A Whole New Ball Game

Bowling is gaining popularity among our high school students. This new bi-monthly activity at Windsor School is a great opportunity for them to socialize with peers. Since prior bowling experience isn’t necessary, the list of interested students continues to grow each month.

The Magic of Starlight Farm

The experience of learning how to ride, feed, and groom horses at Starlight Farm is something that our students will never forget.  They discover how to trust the horses and gain confidence in themselves with every trip to the farm.

The Nurtured Heart Approach® – A Parent Seminar

Our first parent seminar of the school year was presented by Frank Picone, a certified, advanced trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach® which was created by Howard Glasser, MA. He discussed the importance of creating healthy relationships and recognizing that everyone has inherent greatness.  “When we recognize a child’s strengths and focus on positive, everyday occurrences, rather than energizing negativity, we are creating an environment in which children can thrive”.  It was a very informative evening and we received positive feedback from those who attended.

Tools for Success

The skills and strategies that our students learn in speech, counseling, and occupational therapy impact their lives in so many ways. It takes time, patience, and perseverance, but it’s well worth the effort.
